Early Planning is Important while planning your new bathroom

It is amazing how often the shower glass design is overlooked in the early stages of bathroom planning on many of our Charleston glass projects. Too many times, things are placed in the bathroom with no consideration of how the shower glass will fit and function. Keep these things in mind when planning your bathroom renovation, and you’ll be glad you did

Access to shower controls- It is critical to design the new shower keeping in mind that you would like to have easy access to your shower control valve. How many times do you get in to take a morning shower and either freeze, or burn yourself while you wait for the temperature to come to the ideal range. It is not necessary to have the controls on the same side of the shower as the shower head. Early on, ask your plumber his/her input in the location of the controls. Keep the shower door in mind when making this decision. Frameless doors open both outward and inward. Ideally, you would like to be able to turn the water on from the door side while opening the door before taking a shower. Conversely, you would like to be able to open the door inward when you’re done showering so that all of the water drips into the shower, and not out on your new tile floor. Therefore, placement of the shower head comes into play so that the glass does not hit it when opening the door inward.

Toilet placement- It is so common for homeowners to manage their own renovations, that many times what seem to be obvious things, get overlooked. Frequently when out estimating new Charleston glass jobs, I come across toilets which are placed directly in front of showers/ tubs. Many of the openings are also fairly narrow which greatly limits shower glass options. When have the plumber do the rough in, keep in mind that you will need enough room to open a swinging shower door, or enough width in your shower to install sliding bi-pass doors if that is your preference. You need a minimum of 24” clearance for a shower door, and around a 50” minimum opening for sliding bi-pass doors.

Towels- Again, it seems obvious, but being able to reach for your towel when you are done taking a shower, is a big deal. You will regret not keeping towel bar placement in mind early on in the planning process. Make sure that when the glass door is opened , you can readily grab a fresh towel to dry off. We do offer towel bars which can be installed onto our glass, but it detracts from the clean aesthetics of the frameless glass
